Hi all! I apologize for the lack of blog posts this week. It's been a busy couple of days in 3rd grade! This morning, third graders were treated to a visit from storyteller, Jeannine Laverty. Jeannine is a wonderful storyteller who often visits our school. Students enjoyed hearing her stories of the aboriginal people in Australia. Thanks Jeannine for visiting our school today! For more information on Jeannine Laverty, click here! We'll have the opportunity to meet with her again on Thursday and Monday! Reading Buddies!!! On Friday, we spent part of our morning with our 1st grade reading buddies in Mrs. Molloy's class!!! It's always a blast spending time with them! If you haven't already heard, students made, "Welcome to The World" cards for Leo and Mr. & Mrs. Peek! The cards were ADORABLE! A big thank you to Mrs. Molloy for recycling the baby cards she received when she gave birth to her son, Jake, last year! Mrs. Peek will be receiving them this week!!! :) And finally - yesterday was day 3 @ VES, which means third graders had Science Lab with Mrs. Bye! Students learned all about inherited traits AND characteristics not inherited, but learned and acquired. It was a lot of fun listening to your students discuss the traits they believed were inherited from mom or dad! Be sure to ask them all about it!
Mr. Pastiglione I hope you all had a relaxing winter break! 12 days off is a long stretch of time. I definitely enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my family and friends, and eat entirely wayyyyyy too much food! As you can imagine, today felt like it was never ending (this according to students... and I'm sure some teachers as well)! Transitioning back to school after almost two weeks off is never easy, but our class did exceptionally well! We kicked off our day with keyboarding, and then shared a favorite activity from our vacation, and how we helped someone during the winter break. :) This week in math, we are beginning topic 11, Two-Dimensional Shapes and Their Attributes. Over the next couple of weeks, students will be learning about the following: Common Core Standard 3.G.1 In Social Studies, we're finishing up our unit on Australia. Today, 3rd graders worked with their partners in Ms. Newkirk's class to begin their research on a particular region of Australia: Great Dividing Range, Outback, or Great Barrier Reef. Although we ran out of time, students had the opportunity to begin recording information about Australia using books, and laptops (with bookmarked websites)! Once students have gathered enough information, they will be making brochures about their researched region! Be sure to ask your 3rd grader where they're off to! And finally, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to Jack!!! Jack joined the 9-year old club today, and walked in this morning sporting these new birthday "kicks" from his parents! Happy Birthday, Jack!
